There are very few people who aren’t agreeable to the idea of noodles, whether as a one-bowl-meal or hot-off-a-pavement wok or soaked in a soup or tossed at home in two minutes. If that’s the case with you, drop in at The Noodle Story, in Mani Square. The chain launched with an outlet in Lake Mall in December 2016. The kiosk in Mani Square came up this February.

DIY: Choose your noodle, the sauce, the veg and non-veg additions and a garnishing and you’re good to dig in. The noodles are served in a box, which makes it easy to pack and run, eat in the cab or save it for later. The Steamed Bao (veg or non-veg) is served as a pair. Noodles begin at Rs 69 and Bao at Rs 80.

“We’re looking to have at least 20 outlets in Calcutta alone, and even perhaps expand to Gurgaon and Bangalore. We’re an affordable quick service restaurant since most people are too rushed for time to cook themselves these days. The meal-in-a-box is a fast-growing concept and with sandwiches, pizzas and rice already widely available, we thought, why not noodles?” said Shreya Ajitsaria, who is co-proprietor with her husband, Naman.

Why not noodles, indeed? t2 popped in at the Mani Square food court to roll some noodles around our chopsticks.

Khao Mok or Thai Biryani: So you prefer rice. While you can pair plain rice with sauces and veggies of your choices, here’s something that stands out with its basil, clove and red chilli mixture. That zing you can taste comes from the cinnamon sticks. Rs 100
Stir-fried Chicken in Chengdu Chilli Sauce: This mellow gravy is best paired with spicy noodles and there’s enough chicken to be shared by two. Rs 150
