Few people knew about Mahesh Bhatt’s son till he was linked to 26/11 Mumbai attack alleged mastermind David Headley. An aspiring actor, Rahul Bhatt is one of the 14 contestants of Bigg Boss 4. t2 caught up with Rahul before he walked into the Bigg Boss house…

Why Bigg Boss?

My instinct told me to do it. It’s easily the biggest reality show on Indian television and when the production house (Endemol) offered the show to me, my heart told me to just go for it.

Did you discuss the offer with your family?

Yes, yes of course. Dad (Mahesh Bhatt) sat me down and told me about the pros and cons. However, he left the decision to be on the show or opt out of it completely to me. My sister (actress-director Pooja Bhatt) was completely against me being on Bigg Boss. She told me: “It’s a show for has-beens where we only get to see C-grade celebrities.” But somehow, I felt that the pros outweighed the cons.

Have you watched the previous editions of Bigg Boss?

I have watched it in bits and parts. I am vaguely aware of the format, but I really don’t know the specifics of the show. I don’t think a script or a strategy really works on a show like Bigg Boss because ultimately you have to be yourself.

Are you looking at the show as a platform to clear your name?

In a way, yes. It was unfortunate that my name was dragged into something that I was completely unaware of. I want India to know that I am innocent. They should judge me for what I am and not who I am. I am confident the audience will realise that Rahul Bhatt is totally innocent.

What about your Bollywood ambitions?

That’s on hold at the moment. I don’t think Bigg Boss will do me any harm.
