Ajay Devgan with Kajol in U, Me Aur Hum |
After Aamir Khan struck gold with Taare Zameen Par, another Bollywood actor set to wield the director’s baton is Ajay Devgan. U, Me Aur Hum not only marks the actor’s directorial debut, it also heralds the return of the Ajay-Kajol real-life pair to the reel world after a gap of eight years.
The 100-second promo of U, Me Aur Hum is oven fresh and has already attracted a huge number of hits on the Internet from fans who simply can’t wait to see the two together again.
The first shot sets the tone for a mushy love story — seagulls flying over a pure blue sea. A gigantic white ocean-liner then looms on the horizon. Aboard the ship, Ajay Devgan, flowers in hand, asks Kajol: “ You know something… do you believe in love at first sight?” To which Kajol (dressed in a waitress’s uniform), quips in her trademark matter-of-fact manner: “Aap nashe mein hain.” To which Ajay, drunken drawl in place, says: “Aap pila rahin hain… isliye.”
As he draws, Kajol looks decidedly edgy and in a threatening tone, says: “Dekhiye…” Her voice trails off as Ajay looks deep into her eyes and dreamily says: “Dekh hi toh raha hoon.”
Cut to a top shot of the ship which shows the two leaning against the guardrail, their hands touching ala Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in The Titanic. The words, ‘Sometimes the greatest journey is the distance between two people’ appears and a wide montage of shots light up the screen — Ajay and Kajol romancing, dancing, laughing together.
Ajay is shown dancing with a group of girls and then the camera pans on the lovers — dressed in white — waltzing, oblivious to the world passing them by. There is even a shot of Kajol in a black suit dancing with abandon, all by herself. In the last few seconds of the promo, their dark silhouettes are visible against the setting sun as Ajay says: “Jaise ishq ko paane ke liye ek junoon zaroori hai, ishq ko nibhane ke liye bhi ek junoon zaroori hai.”
All through the promo Adnan Sami’s mellifluous voice rings in the background. Written by Robin Bhatt, Sutanu Gupta and Akash Khurana, U, Me Aur Hum’s supporting cast comprises Divya Dutta, Isha Sharvani, Karan Khanna and Sumeet Raghavan. The music has been scored by Vishal Bhardwaj.
The film releases on April 11.
