Six mentors. A four-day music residency programme in the “tranquil setting of Vedic Village Spa Resort”. Learning from and
jamming with the teachers.
Come Wednesday, music enthusiasts and students will get to find their groove at Vedic Village Spa Resort for Music Master Class. Six mentors — Amyt Datta, Miti Adhikari, Ehsaan Noorani, Arunima Dasgupta, Sambit Chatterjee and Ankit Gandhi Lall — will guide students through a four-day programme from June 21 to June 24, where participants will get access to workshops, lectures, studio equipment, music appreciation and music marketing classes.
With demonstration-based workshops, Music Master Class aims to provide young students rich, interactive and engaging sessions with the mentors. “Residency workshops bring the students closer to the teacher and vice versa. It takes the music beyond just 12 notes. It’s a different kind of enriching experience-sharing, this time for both students and mentors alike and that’s what this residency workshop is going to be all about,” said guitarist Ehsaan Noorani. “It’s a dream-come-true situation for any musician. If you are thinking of taking up music seriously or want to apply for the Berklee College of Music, this will open up your eyes,” said Nishit Arora, one of the organisers.
Guitarist Amyt Datta highlighted the sense of community feeling that’ll work wonders. “That’s a great plus point. The best part is there will be no distractions. You’ll be there for it, day and night. And it’ll be a great test of character for the budding musicians. They’ll gain some great experience. The whole thing is so special,” he said.
One will also get to network while staying there, added Nishit. “The idea is one has to get the holistic experience. It’s not like you are going for a guitar lesson or a recording session. If you are a guitar player, you’ll learn a bit about sound engineering, you’ll learn how important it is to play along with a vocalist. At the end of the day, you want to make/record a song. This whole process will help you achieve that. It’s about how you create a song out of your ideas. Before you head to a studio to record your first demo, you need to have a knowledge about the process. You should be technically sound.... Your homework is very important and it’ll help you enhance your skills and performance,” said Nishit.
On Day Four, the mentors, popular city musicians and select students will get together for a concert at V Den at Vedic Village. “Music Master Class is a first-of-its-kind experience in this part of the country. We want to give amateurs an opportunity to experience the thrill of music writing and production,” said Abhijit Bose, president of Vedic Village Spa Resort.
