Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, opened to a slow start at the domestic box office on Friday. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the romantic drama earned Rs 2.90 crore nett in India on its opening day across 4,944 shows, according to industry data-tracking website Sacnilk.

Despite the modest opening, Chand Mera Dil outperformed the recent romance drama Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. Produced by Aamir Khan, the film had collected Rs 1.15 crore nett on its opening day.

However, Chand Mera Dil failed to match the opening-day figures of Ananya Panday’s previous theatrical release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which co-starred Kartik Aaryan and had opened with Rs 7.75 crore nett on day one.

It, however, earned more than the opening day collection of Lakshya’s debut film Kill (Rs 1.25 crore nett).

Directed by Vivek Soni, Chand Mera Dil follows Chandni, played by Ananya Panday, and Aarav, played by Lakshya, who meet during their college days in Hyderabad and fall in love. However, with mounting tensions in their relationship, a violent confrontation becomes the turning point of their love story.

Meanwhile, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rakul Preet Singh, witnessed a slowdown at the box office after entering its second week in theatres.

The Mudassar Aziz directorial, which released on May 15, collected Rs 29 crore nett in its first week. According to Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 1.35 crore nett on Day 8 across 2,788 shows, marking a 32.5 per cent drop compared with the previous day’s earnings.

The film’s total India collection has now reached Rs 30.35 crore nett (Rs 36.02 crore gross). Overseas, the film has grossed Rs 5.85 crore, taking its worldwide gross collection to Rs 41.87 crore.
