They are both reticent, they are both outspoken… and they star together for the first time in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon, releasing on February 24. Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut make an appearance on Koffee with Karan this Sunday (9pm on STAR World and STAR World HD) to talk stardom and social media, Bollywood and beyond. Briefly joining the ‘Queen’ of the box office and the Chhote Nawab will be their Rangoon co-star Shahid Kapoor, who was once in a relationship with Saif’s wife Kareena Kapoor. Saif over Shah Rukh for KJo!

Host Karan Johar’s friendship with Shah Rukh Khan is legendary, but did you know that the very first episode of Koffee with Karan was actually shot with Saif? It happened 12 summers ago when Saif was shooting for Kal Ho Naa Ho, produced by Karan, and he had shot for the episode, with his Kal Ho Naa Ho co-star Preity Zinta, on his birthday (August 16)!

Social media? Not them

Why are both Saif and Kangana so aloof, Karan wants to know. Saif, who prefers the company of close friends and a good book over a Bollywood party, says that social media doesn’t work for him because it takes away his privacy; he’d rather live each moment than focus on sharing them with the world. While Kangana admits that her absence on social media often leads to her missing out on opportunities for endorsing brands, it’s a conscious choice. Be it refusing to endorse fairness creams or performing for stage shows, Kangana says she chooses to stick by her values, even at the cost of losing out professionally. 

Kangana: I’ve been kissed by a girl!

The ‘Koffee Shots’ segment (where guests down coffee shots as they reveal some of their closely-guarded secrets) has been a huge hit this season. While Saif admits that he had once cheated on his partner a long time ago (wonder who it was?), the crazy revelation of the evening is made by Kangana when she confesses that she was once kissed by a girl. Even as KJo and Saif are all ears, Kangana says that it all happened during a “tipsy night” in California when one thing led to another and she was kissed by a Spanish girl. But while Kangana passed the kiss off as an “interesting incident”, things went out of control when the girl turned up at Kangana’s hotel the next morning, claiming to be in love with her! 

Shahid the moody one

Shahid joins Saif and Kangana on the episode, but before that his Rangoon leading lady says that Shahid is very “moody”. “While on some days he is the life of the set, joking around, making everyone laugh and even bringing breakfast for the cast from home, he also has his dark days when his mood is blue and he will look at you like you are a suicide bomber!” says Kangana.

No Khans for this Queen

While every Bolly heroine is ready to give an arm and a leg to work with the three Khans — Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh — Kangana maintains she doesn’t really want to be in a film starring a Khan. Reason? She would rather not star in a movie in which her role is second to that of a superstar. Attagirl!
