Girish Park girl Dimpy Ganguly, a popular face in the city modelling circuit, is a step away from becoming Mrs Rahul Mahajan in season two of NDTV Imagine’s Swayamvar. t2 caught up with Dimpy in the run-up to D-day (March 6).

How are you feeling?

I am very excited, nervous also. Till now, these two months have been like a dream come true. And if I do get married…if Rahul chooses me as his bride, then it will be a dream marriage. I am happy, excited.

What made you sign up for such a show?

I have always found Rahul to be a very interesting person. No matter what difficulties, what problems in life have come his way, he has dealt with them in a mature manner. From whatever he has gone through in life and come out of, he always gives me the feeling that he can rise above everything, he can get up from scratch and set things right. I find him very dependable. I thought that I would really like to know him better. And when I came to know that he was looking for a bride on TV, I knew I had to go for the auditions. I am someone who has always listened to my heart. When I was packing my bags for the show, all I knew was that my heart was with me in this. I just landed up in Mumbai and it’s been a dream journey.

What have you discovered about Rahul Mahajan?

I have discovered that whatever ideas I had about him as a person weren’t wrong at all. People have a lot of preconceived notions about Rahul that aren’t true at all. He is very honest and an openminded person, someone in front of whom you can pour your heart out. He is vulnerable, but has a very intelligent side to him, something that really impressed me the most. He is very trusting as well as trustworthy.

I am very comfortable in his company. I feel this person knows me even without me talking about myself. There used to be times when he was just reading my mind and saying what was on my mind. The chemistry was just there. I don’t know how it is possible to have so much chemistry in such short time, but it definitely is there. I find him so much like me. We are very like-minded people. I have found a best friend in him to confide in and share everything with. I do see myself sharing the rest of my life with him.

Your chances on March 6?

On March 6, I do see myself as Mrs Rahul Mahajan because I have seen and felt the chemistry that the two of us share. I think, out of all three [Nikunj Malik from Faridabad and Harpreet Chhabra from Delhi], his equation with me is the strongest. Rahul is a very genuine person and I know that I am very genuine in my feelings for him. I am very emotionally connected to him and Rahul hasn’t failed to notice that. I think my genuine nature and the fact that I am so serious about this man and this marriage is what will make Rahul choose me.

How have your friends and family reacted to you in Swayamvar?

Everybody is very happy for me. Initially, when I told my parents, it naturally came as a shock. They didn’t expect me to become so serious about marriage at 21. My father, in particular, had a lot of apprehensions. But then when he met Rahul, all his doubts were cleared and now he totally adores Rahul. My parents are very sure that if there is anyone who will take good care of me, it is Rahul. My mother has always been very fond of Rahul and now my dad too thinks the world of him. He comes across as a gentle person… he comes across as an innocent person. He is someone who will genuinely take care of his wife, will give her her due. I don’t think you need anything more in life.

What about his failed marriage?

That was never an issue. It’s something that happened…something that didn’t work out and something that he has left behind and moved on. We all have a past, but everyone has to look ahead to the future. And my future is with Rahul.

If you do become Mrs Rahul Mahajan would that mean an end to your modelling career?

That is something about Rahul that really impressed me the most. I had a word with him about continuing with my career and he told me that he was not at all looking for a housewife. He would like his woman to have an identity, a name for herself, he would like her to be independent. He would want her to do what she loves to do and has a talent for.

I am a model and actor and he is from the Mahajan family and yet he wants me to go ahead with my career and he wants to be my support system. My career depends on my potential and not my marital status.

Does the fact that the first season of Swayamvar (with Rakhi Sawant) did not culminate in marriage bother you?

No, no, no. Not at all. I don’t care what has happened in the past but I know for sure that on March 6, Rahul Mahajan is going to get married. And that Dimpy Ganguly is going to be the chosen one.
