FIRST IN JANUARY: Once their films hit the theatres in summer, one thing that is ubiquitous are the long queues at ticket counters. Come 2019, and Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay and Nandita Roy will be doing something different — they’ll be releasing their film in January. “We (Windows production house) are releasing Rosogolla, directed by Pavel, on December 21. And then we need a four-week gap, which is why we are releasing our film Konttho (starring Shiboprosad, Paoli Dam and Jaya Ahsan) on January 18,” says Shiboprosad.
Rosogolla is a “sweet love story” about the invention of rosogolla. The period piece traces the life of the sweetmeat’s creator Nabin Chandra Das. The film introduces a new pair — Ujaan Ganguly and Abantika, who play Nabin and Khirodmoni Debi. Subhashree plays a courtesan. Another Windows film, Monojder Adbhut Bari, directed by Anindya Chattopadhyay, is set to release this Puja on October 12. “We want to give a platform to fresh talent, young actors and directors,” adds Shiboprosad.
