What: t2 & City Centre present Ebong Ilish
When: August 9-11; 2pm to 9pm
Where: City Centre Salt Lake and New Town
On the cards: For hilsa lovers, it can’t get any better! From bhapa to paturi, biryani to vindaloo — Bengal’s favourite fish will be served in all possible forms at both City Centre Salt Lake and New Town this weekend.
The fishy affair will bring to the table nine big names (see box) known for their hilsa preparations. Some items will be boneless, pampering those who love the fish but hate the bones. For a sweet ending, Cafe Swiss from Swissotel will serve desserts. Think Tiramisu, assorted pastries and Swiss Chocolate Liqueur Balls.
Organiser speak: “Monsoon in Bengal is incomplete without hilsa and we at Ambuja Neotia wanted to celebrate a quintessential barshakal experience for our Calcutta patrons with this festival,” said Ramesh Pandey, deputy general manager, brand and corporate communications, Ambuja Neotia Group.

A sip of a cuppa of Assam tea would not only be a healthy move but a step towards conserving one-horned rhinoceros. Wondering how? TasteofAssam@ChaBar, an initiative by Oxford Bookstore with WWF-India, has introduced chai from the tea estates of Budlabeta, Hapjan, Khobong and Sessa along with organic Assam tea. The funds collected by Oxford Bookstore will be donated for WWF India’s Indian Rhino Vision 2020 project in Assam that aims at preserving the natural habitat of rhinos and protecting them from becoming extinct. The new range of teas is available for Rs 50-plus.
