Showing us the good, the bad and the ugly of technology is exactly what “ethical hacker” Ankit Fadia had in mind. The tech junkie was the star draw of the Youth to Business Forum organised by the global youth network AIESEC, in association with The Telegraph-YOU at Vidya Mandir.
“Computer security is an issue of global concern, not only for people sitting in boardrooms but also for common users of the Internet for educational and entertainment purposes. The biggest problem of the Internet is that the moment you connect, no matter what you do online, every single move is watched, recorded and logged on some server or the other. It’s necessary to make people aware of these evils,” said Ankit Fadia.
The day also saw a number of seminars by youngsters carving out a niche for themselves in the fields they are passionate about. Arnold Buoro, an AIESEC intern from Kenya, spoke about how moving out of one’s comfort zone and interning abroad can help one discover a range of work ethics. Sneha Ghosh, a Calcutta-based model who appeared on the reality show Asia’s Next Top Model in January 2014, spoke about fashion and feminism.
Overall, the forum highlighted the mantra of zeroing in on one’s passion, and giving it all. “Our main aim was to generate new and actionable ideas for the youth, which was achieved splendidly,” said Apurva Vurity, president of AIESEC (Calcutta).
Tips and tricks from Ankit Fadia
Do you have email accounts with Hotmail, Yahoo!, Google or Rediff?
Stop using them. Every email that’s sent out or received is scanned for some keywords. In other words, if you send an email with the keywords ‘kill Obama’, you are immediately blacklisted, and a background check of the sender is done.
How many of you use www.google.com?
Stop using it. Google keeps track of user search habits. Each time you enter a set of keywords, it gets stored against your name, along with something known as the IP address of your computer.
Do you use the Windows operating system?
It’s time for a change. Each time an error occurs on Windows, the system asks you whether you want to send an error report to Microsoft. If you choose to report the error then along with the report, a complete list of hardware and software installed on your computer is sent.
Has your college blocked certain sites?
Get around it using a proxy server like www.hidemyass.com.
Want to play a prank on your friend?
Send him a fake email from Bill Gates offering him a job at Microsoft from www.anonymizer.in/fake-mailer.
Suspect that your significant other is cheating on you?
Download Mobile Spy on his/her smartphone and get updates on all calls and text messages received and even the pictures and videos clicked. If the phone is GPS-enabled, you can even get to know where exactly he/she is.
Left your phone at home and want to access something on it?
Download AirDroid on your Android phone, which lets you operate the phone from your desktop.
