Disney’s beloved deer Bambi shows its sinister side in a new teaser of Dan Allen’s Bambi: The Reckoning, a horror retelling of the 1942 classic animated film.

The one-minute-one-second-long teaser, dropped by the makers on Wednesday, shows a twisted interpretation of the classic Bambi movie. It begins with two men trying to shoot a bird tied to a tree. In the next sequence, Bambi charges down in an all-black avatar, instead of the orange and brown coat in the original film, with its massive antlers and topples a moving car.

“We follow Xana (Roxanne McKee) and her son Benji (Tom Mulheron) who find themselves in a car wreck and soon hunted down by the vicious killing machine, Bambi,” reads the official synopsis of the film by production house Umbrella Entertainment.

The upcoming film is a part of the Twisted Childhood Cinematic Universe, which is a series of eight horror retelling films directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, Rhys Warrington and Scott Chambers. The first two films were a twisted retelling of the Disney classic Winnie the Pooh. Bambi: The Reckoning is a sequel to the 2023 film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.

Slasher adaptations of Peter Pan, Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty are also currently in the works.

Filming for Bambi: The Reckoning began in January. “BAMBI: THE RECKONING begins filming in 3 days. Can’t wait to meet Bambi in person someday,” the official page of the film announced on January 3.

Bambi: The Reckoning stars Roxanne McKee, Tom Mulheron, Nicola Wright, Samira Mighty and Russell Geoffrey Banks. Helmed by Dan Allen, the film is adapted from a screenplay by Felix Staten and Rhys Warrington.

The characters in the film will be based on Staten’s 1923 novel Bambi: A Life in the Woods, which was also the inspiration for the classic Disney film.
