They have been friends for many years now. Tonight, the evergreen Anil Kapoor is the guest on The Anupam Kher Show — Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai (Colors 8pm). A t2 sneak peek.

Anupam Kher: I remember the first time we met on the sets of Saaransh where you did not even notice me and walked past me towards Mahesh Bhatt. Do you recall the moment?

Anil Kapoor: I honestly do not remember much about that moment. But slowly, as you talk about it, I do recall those memories. I remember that day when I had come to the Pali Hill hotel where you were shooting with Mahesh Bhatt. I was shooting with Dilip Kumar for my film Mashaal at that time. You can imagine my emotions, I was so nervous to shoot with him so I decided to get some acting points from Mahesh Bhatt. I not only wanted to meet Mahesh Bhatt to prepare for the scene but I also wanted to make a good impression on him of being a hard-working actor and having a good reputation. I wanted him to notice me as a sincere actor so that he would consider me for his next film! So all of these thoughts were going through my head because of which I inadvertently ignored you to get his attention.

Anupam: If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

Anil: Labour class... labourer would be the word. I have always been the kind to respect any kind of work a person does. Be it working in a palace or a slum, I have never considered a particular job to be shameful. Rather, I respect each and every one of them no matter the status. What matters, I think, is how much you learn from the job you undertake and what values to take from it.

Anupam: Can you describe your childhood? Were you good in studies?

Anil: To be honest with you, everyone in my family has failed at least once in their examinations and I was always proud of never having failed in my exams. However, the minute I made the decision to be an actor — the one thing that I always wanted to be — in that very examination I failed for the first time!

Anupam: You’re talking about FTII in Pune?

Anil: Yes.

Anupam: And I heard that after that you went to speak to the dean, fighting for admission?

Anil: Sab kuch kiya. I fought, I pleaded, I did whatever I could to get admission. I even tried to base my argument on ‘what could a written exam have to do with acting’?! But sadly, he said that rules are rules and I didn’t get into the school.

Anupam: How did you propose to Sunita?

Anil: I was considered a villain in her house because I had cancelled twice before to go to her house to meet her family and ask for her hand. But the third time I went, I decided that I wanted us to marry the next day itself or never! The wedding, surprisingly, was all planned in one day itself with a few friends and family in attendance. Normally it’s usually the girl who cries as she leaves but instead I began to get emotional!

Anupam: Among Sonam, Rhea and Harsh, who are you closest to?

Anil: It usually depends on the situation and it varies day by day. I am blessed to have three children and find each one of them to have very different characters. But if I had to choose a favourite, it would be my wife.
