Kareem’s, the Mumbai chain serving Northwest Frontier cuisine that set up base in town in Sector V about a year back, has opened a second outlet on Mirza Ghalib Street. The 2,200sq ft address — done up with mirrors, woodwork and shimmering chandeliers — has a seating capacity of 76. A glass-walled tandoor kitchen allows guests to watch their food being made.
“The second outlet is a move for us to try and get close to our customers in south and central Calcutta. With new inclusions in the menu, we expect the same warmth that we have been receiving over the past year,” said Sayantan Saha, Joydeep Saha and Rohit Chowdhury, co-owners of RJS Matri Food and Beverages, master franchisee for Kareem’s West Bengal.
The menu has a fair amount of new items, along with signature dishes such as Chicken Potli Kebab and Gosht Barra Chaap.
Gosht Kakori Kebab: This is a Kareem’s signature and is available only at the Mirza Ghalib Street outlet for now. Cooked on a special grill, mutton mince is flavoured with spices and raw papaya to make it creamy and tender. You’d be amazed by the melt-in-the-mouth feel. Rs 400-plus
Gosht Shahi Barra Chaap: A variant of the Gosht Barra Chaap, this has mutton ribs marinated in a yoghurt, cream, cashew and spice mix. The result is meat that slides off the bones. Rs 400-plus

Murgh Anarkali Kebab: Chicken chunks are marinated in a pomegranate seed-based masala, cooked in the tandoor and drizzled with a sauce made of cream, cheese and pomegranate seeds. This one’s for the experimental foodie. Rs 320-plus

Murgh Lazeez Handi: Boneless chicken meets the creaminess of a yellow gravy flavoured with clove (Rs 380-plus). Team it with Badami Rice, a pulao with caramelised onions and chopped, ghee-roasted almonds. Rs 210-plus
In the mood for a feast? Try the special Tandoori Surmai, a whole Surmai fish marinated with Kabuli spices and cooked in the tandoor. It takes around 40 minutes to prepare, so place your order with some time in hand. Rs 1,600-plus
