DJ Michaë Canitrot Draws His Energy And Inspiration From Live Shows Published 11.03.12, 12:00 AM

I’ve been deejaying since the age of 10 — that’s how fascinated I was by the job. My only gear back then was two ghetto blasters (those huge portable cassette players) without even so much as a mixer. My first serious gig, however, was in 2000 when I played at Les Bains Douches, a legendary club in Paris. This remains one of my most cherished moments professionally.

The year 2000 was also the year when I initiated the So, Happy in Paris? dance parties. It’s now grown from a single party in Paris to an international brand, currently hosting over 100 shows a year across the world from Paris to Miami and Barcelona to Tokyo. Last year, we celebrated 10 years of the brand and the anniversary bash was hosted on the Eiffel Tower in Paris — the first ever club-night to be held in there.

After that, many more achievements have come my way. In 2003, I became the official DJ for the International Cannes Film Festival, creating original soundtracks for the festival’s red carpet events and parties. Another turning point was my first radio show in 2004 on the biggest dance music station in France called FG DJ Radio.

All these milestones have given me immense exposure on the clubbing scene and at the same time helped me enter the world of fashion and cinema. It paved the way for me to compose for top-notch fashion brands like Dior, Prada, Cartier and Versace. However, I draw my energy and inspiration from my live shows. Amongst my most memorable shows were the ones in Korea (2009) and Brazil (2011). I also remember my gig at Green Valley in Camboriu, Brazil, two months ago where some 8,000 people danced in an open air club situated in a jungle between the mountains and the sea. It was unforgettable. And the recent India gig will also remain a memorable experience.

I am now looking forward to releasing a new album by the year end. And in April, I will be releasing a part of my new compilation of tracks that I produced for Playboy magazine, which will also include my latest music productions and the sassiest songs of this spring...so stay tuned.
