Deepti Naval - Actress Getting Away From The City AS TOLD TO ARUNDHATI BASU Published 18.03.06, 12:00 AM

Weekends are not sacrosanct for me. In fact, I think I work more on weekends than on the other days. Often I take breaks during the weekdays. I love watching films which seem promising. But it’s morning shows for me in the multiplexes, as it is less crowded and there is less chance of being recognised.

This may come as a surprise, but food does not figure in a big way in my holiday plans. Food is incidental to my life. So I either go for fresh fruits or stir- fried vegetables coupled with salads. That is about it when it comes to food. But yes, I am passionate about driving away from the city.

So often you would find me in Madh Island where I have a nice little house by the sea. It is a shack-like place where I like to chill out. Also friends like filmmakers Ketan Mehta and Sudhir Mishra live nearby. So we get together and watch films on Mishra’s home theatre. Long walks on the beach and lazing around in the swimming pool in the compound are a part of my short trips there. There’s something special and exclusive about the place that draws me back again and again.

One of my other favourite hangouts is a place four or five hours from Mumbai. It is called Janjira, which has a beautiful fort by the name of Murud. Driving away from the city is especially charming during the monsoons when the terrain is green and soothing to the eyes.
