In my profession, weekends simply do not exist. It’s my job to ensure that other people have a weekend worth remembering, which leaves me with just a few hours to take time off for my family. Not that I am complaining. I am one of those lucky few who get to make a profession out of their hobbies. And I just love it.
Understandably, Fridays and Saturdays are extremely busy days for me work-wise. I leave home at 9:30am and usually return home at unearthly hours. The better part of the weekend is choc-a-bloc with work and I just about manage to do the rounds of all the places that I’m professionally attached to and get around to making a couple of social calls as well. Though it’s exhausting, the saving grace is that I manage to derive tremendous enjoyment out of it!
I try and reserve Sundays for my family — my wife Shikha and my four-year old son Kabir. Shikha and I are expecting our second baby soon, so the Sunday routine will probably look a lot different over the next few months. Usually, Sundays are for Kabir. As soon as he wakes up, he chalks up a plan to go out — either to Forum, or Crossword to buy books or somewhere around Hiland Park to buy toys. And then we take long walks and chat about a million things with him throwing almost an equal number of questions at me! Shikha and I round off Sunday with a quiet dinner and an occasional movie. And then it’s back to the normal grind of another week.
