nThis is quite easy because this summer, my husband Ashok and I had gone to Chicago for a programme. It was after a long time that the two of us were going anywhere together, so yes, it was special. We were in Chicago for less than a week but the high point of our stay was the beautiful cruise we took on Lake Superior. Throughout the cruise, there was a running commentary on the city of Chicago, its origins and history ? quite interesting really! What’s more, there were quite a few of us from Calcutta, so we were in the company of friends.

Whilst in Chicago, we also visited Annapolis, the capital of Maryland. This place remains with me, as it was so different from the big cities and bright lights of most American cities. Annapolis was a typical example of small-town America with its quaint houses and pretty restaurants by the sea serving up platters of crabs and other seafood.
