It’s snack time at The Gateway Deli

Like any Bengali, I like my bhaja-bhuji. Think shingara, chop-cutlet, patty and rolls. A recent trip to Deli At Gateway took care of my evening snack cravings. Located on the ground floor of  The Gateway Hotel EM Bypass, the star address known for serving Bangladeshi delicacies, the delicatessen is serving up bakery and confectionery items with a twist.

From popular Bengali snacks like Mochar Patties and Dimer Chop to the more experimental Chocolate Singhara and the classic Red Velvet cake, the Deli offers a wide range. You will also find cookies, doughnuts, muffins and more at this yummy corner situated right beside the hotel’s atrium. Step out of the Deli and settle down in a dedicated seating zone beside it to relish your snack over some adda.

Kosha Mangsho Puff is spicy yet light. “This one is my absolute favourite. I wanted to create something that brings together a regional flavour along with puff pastry,” said Deep Mitra Thakur, executive chef, The Gateway Hotel. Rs 80 per piece

General manager of The Gateway Hotel, Sourav Ghosal, had seen Deli At Gateway having “a huge potential” and it was his concept to make it a delicatessen with a Bengali connect. “The idea came about by going around different bakeries and delis in the city and finding that there isn’t really any bakery shop offering something for everybody. We have got gift items and flowers along with the regular deli selections like breads, pastries and savouries with a local twist,” said Sourav.
