Ask any of my classmates and they will tell you, science was not my favourite subject in school. That is why my younger colleagues have to hold my hand when I need to write 100 words on National Science Day, coming up on Tuesday. It is an appropriate day to celebrate the occasion. It commemorates C V Raman’s discovery of the Raman Effect on this day in 1927, for which he went on to receive the Nobel Prize in 1930. Apart from being a brilliant scientist, Raman was also a diehard nationalist. This year, I understand, the focal theme of February 28 is “Cleaner Energy Options and Nuclear Safety”. Let us all take a pledge towards helping to make our world so.
