My daughter and I get in the car every morning at 7.30. By 7.45 she reaches school, and in those 15 minutes I succumb to her choice of music — I have no say in the matter. But from 7.45, after dropping her, for the next 20 minutes that it takes me to get back home, I tune in to FM. And I follow this ritual religiously every ‘school’ morning, five days a week. Every time I listen to the young band of RJs today, I can’t help but admire their trilingual ability to speak fluently in not only Bengali, but also in Hindi and in English. I fondly recall Sunday afternoons in the mid ’70s — our family sitting around the large, white, box-radio with big, black knobs, listening to the Bournvita Quiz Contest on Vividh Bharati. But by far my fondest memories are of the radio shows I had done for around two years. Those were extremely exciting and satisfying…but that’s another story. And yes, here’s wishing all you mothers a happy Mothers’ Day.
