Mayukh Mitter was a familiar figure to the Calcutta quiz fraternity in the 1980s, when he twice won the Bournvita Quiz Contest for La Martiniere. He continued to be an active quizzer at IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad. On August 15, Mayukh collapsed at his desk in Singapore. Only 46, he died on the way to hospital. This week’s column is dedicated to Mayukh, and to a time when young quartets and senior pros alike competed for nothing more than a hamper of goodies and a thirst for trivia. Mayukh always had the answers. But sadly, we are all speechless before the Greater Questioner in the Sky. RIP Mayukh Mitter.
