Free the frizz

A sudden shower can mar a good hair day for you. Here's how to keep your mane rain-ready

The umbrella is your go-to during the rainy season if you want to protect your hair, like Taylor Swift.

It’s that time of the year when the skies open up every now and then and you can get caught in a downpour anytime, anywhere. And one of the many problems of getting wet is your hairstyle getting ruined by the rainwater. Monsoon brings with it certain other hair woes as well, and topping the list are frizzy locks and excessive hairfall. The build-up of styling products, pollution and rainwater, which is dirty and acidic, damage your hair, making it dull and drab.
During monsoon, hair tends to get greasy and oily due to the humidity and keeping your scalp clean is important.

NOURISH YOUR TRESSES

Using a detox shampoo will clean the hair of all impurities, allowing conditioners and treatments to penetrate and replenish your locks. This will bring your tresses back to life, increasing shine and leaving them feeling soft and healthy.

2 If you have long locks, a smoothening serum could be your star buy. When used as a finishing product, it will add gloss and shine and tame frizzy hair. Applying a serum to the ends of your long hair will help to protect and seal the ends, preventing split ends and further breakage.

3 Using an intensive conditioner treatment once a week is a great way to keep your hair in top shape. After leaving the product on for the recommended time, follow it up with your everyday conditioner. Conditioners are like face cream for the hair. They deposit ingredients that smoothen, strengthen, soften and moisturise, giving hair greater flexibility and shine. This routine will leave your hair feeling fantastic.

4 Wrap your hair in a warm towel — the heat helps the hair detox treatment work its magic.

QUICK FIX

Keep hair styles simple. Ponytails and braids are your best friends and here’s how to get the catwalk ponytail.

Smoothen hair with a soft-bristle brush but don’t flatten it too much.

2 Tie the hair into a ponytail with a thick rubber band.

3 Take a section of hair from the ponytail to wrap around the base and cover the band.

4 To create a bouncy ponytail with a trendy flick, wrap the ends around a large Velcro roller and blow-dry over it carefully, keeping the nozzle close to the hair.

5 Use a dab of light wax to smooth away flyaway strands.

Tame trick:

If your hair just won’t stay put, tame flyaway strands with anti-frizz styling products. Take a tiny amount into your palms, warm the product and gently pass your fingers through your hair. This will help you look neat and frizz-free.

DO AND DON’T

1 Add serum sparingly, building it up until you create a natural sheen.

2 Don’t brush wet hair.

3 Don’t tie wet hair.

4 Use a mild shampoo at least thrice a week but use less quantity of product. Rinse well, pat dry and condition.

5 Always wash your hair after it gets wet in the rain.

6 Use a dry shampoo as a deodorant, volume-boost as well as a sun filter for sticky hair, as a quick fix. The active ingredients in it help absorb oil and the added bonus is that the formula smells good!

7 Use the right comb to detangle hair. A wide-toothed comb or a tangle-teaser will help lessen static charge.
