Timings: 12.30pm to 11.30pm

Gymkhana is synoymous with everything Mumbai and the new menu at Mumbai Local revolves around it. In addition to their authentic chaats and Parsi dishes, this two-storeyed restaurant gives vegetarians a large variety of sips and bites good enough to keep them close to their Bambaiyya roots.

“The north Indian food at Mumbai Local has been very popular apart from the Bombay street food. We had been getting a lot of requests to explore more kebabs and main course dishes. Keeping that in mind, we have introduced the Gymkhana menu,” said Harsh Sonthalia, co-owner of Mumbai Local.

Named Chinese Singhada, this dish consists of crispy rice fried in a mix of sauces with water chestnuts. Served on a fried wonton sheet, it feels like a chaat you have never had before! Rs 295
A plate of Karari Kamal Kakdi is a great snack. These deep-fried lotus stems with spices can be best had over a hearty adda. Rs 275
This tamarind-flavoured take on the Margarita is sweet, tangy and packs a punch. The Imli-Rita, available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic variants, will leave you wanting more. Rs 175/270
The Bambaiyya Mojito brings a twist to the classic Cuban drink with some jaggery to give it an Indian flavour. Not overtly sweet, this drink is a palate cleanser available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic variants.
Rs 210/165
Maharashtra is known for its juicy strawberries and this Strawberry Pie will make you come back for more. Not too sweet or tangy, it goes well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Rs 295
Cigars everyone would love — that’s the magic of these Nutella Cigars, a delish combo of crunchy filo pastry, soft gooey Nutella and salty caramel praline. Rs 275

NEW IN TOWN

BIHARI BITES ARRIVE WITH LITTII EXPRESS

What: Littii Express

Where: 62/7 Ballygunge Circular Road, next to Thai Village Spa

Timings: Noon to midnight

Pocket pinch: Rs 450-plus per head

Bihari cuisine has chugged into the city with Littii Express, the newly-opened 650sq ft outlet on Ballygunge Circular Road. You get a feel of Bihar the moment you are in, as the interiors are done up with Madhubani-style wall paintings, sketches of popular landmarks in Bihar and wall-hangings with local words from the state.

“Our attempt is to acquaint the city with the taste of Bihar,” said owners Usha Goswami, Rajesh Kumar Prasad and Sonia Gupta, all hailing from Bihar. Assimilating the menu and picking the dishes was a mammoth task for the team, “as Bihari cuisine is extensive. That apart, all our ingredients — from ghee to sattu — are sourced from Bihar to retain the right taste”, added Usha. t2 walked in for a few bites.

(L-R) Bel Sharbat, Spicy Sattu Sharbat, Aam Panna, Sweet Sattu Sharbat, Loopy Lemonade (Apple) and Kulhar Lassi are some of the refreshing sips that you could opt for. Made with fresh ingredients, these are good for the hot summer months.
Priced between Rs 65 and Rs 125.
The title dish of the outlet is of course the famous Littii Chokha. Besan balls are stuffed with a spicy sattu mix and then baked in the oven. They are served with chokha, which are mashed potatoes cooked with Indian spices, baingan ka bharta and tomato chutney. Opt for the ghee-loaded version at Rs 200-plus, or the non-ghee version at Rs 175-plus.
A yummy and easy-on-the-tummy option is the Begusarai Ka Bagia Basket, a sought-after evening snack in Bihar. Rice cakes are filled with a spiced chana dal paste and steamed to tenderness. For those who don’t like steamed food, it can be pan-tossed with some mustard and spices for added flavour. Rs 250-plus
Named after Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s signature style, the Helicopter Pulao is a comfort food comprising rice, chana dal and chunks of brinjal — all coming together to make something of an Indianised risotto. Served with baingan ka bharta, aloo chokha and green chutney as accompaniment, this one’s quite filling.
Rs 250-plus
