FOR THE BEGINNER

If you are new to buying art or are planning to start, you can focus on folk art, watercolours, digital prints and etchings, and posters.

They are affordable and appealing. The best way to buy art is to go for what you like looking at.

(L-R) Folk art from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Bengal is a good place to start. The works are colourful, traditional and full-fledged paintings by masters at dream prices. Rs 800 to Rs 6,000

Folk art from Cheriyal — both paintings and masks — by master painters are also viable options. Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,000

Posters of 19th century battala art is perfect for the young ones doing up their hostel rooms. They are affordable and there is no maintenance or storing hassle. Rs 250 (without frame) and Rs 800 (with frame)

Watercolours are classic and familiar and fit nicely into the home environment. Rs 7,500 to Rs 20,000
Digital prints and etchings are affordable and easy to maintain, hence a good choice for first-timers. Rs 900 to Rs 9,000

FOR THE COLLECTOR

Serious buyers and art collectors can focus on the more experimental art that CIMA Art Mela has to offer, especially since they already know what they like. They can choose from a selection of mixed media works, acrylic on canvas, acrylic on paper, work by CIMA Award 2017 nominees and senior artists for prices ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 28,000.

Artwork by senior artists like (clockwise from top left) Jogen Chowdhury, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Sanatan Dinda and Paresh Maity are available at unbelievably low prices.
Artwork by CIMA Award nominees — whose works have been vetted by a pan-India jury — are also available.
One can also browse three-dimensional art in bronze, terracotta, ceramics and mixed media.
