Bridgette Jones Has The Most Effective Make-up Tricks Up Her Sleeve Published 17.07.11, 12:00 AM

I am 19 and have shoulder-length hair which has been greying prematurely since my childhood. Almost 70 per cent of my hair is grey now. I have to colour it at least twice a month. Earlier I used henna but now I use premium hair colour products. However, my hair has become very dry and rough. It looks artificial and no amount of conditioners have helped. What do I do?

Going grey is inevitable but some of us are genetically predisposed to go grey much earlier than others. A diet lacking in vitamin B has been found to accelerate greying. Seek professional advice and bump up your intake of vitamin B. Follow this golden rule. Avoid washing dry hair everyday, it does not need it. And when you do wash, dilute your shampoo. There is no need to apply shampoo to the ends — the action of rinsing will be sufficient to cleanse along the whole length of your hair. You don’t need to shampoo twice with every wash. Only do this if you have a build-up of styling products or residue in your hair that requires extra cleaning. Much like a face mask, once a week apply a hair mask to freshly washed hair. After blotting excess water, apply the mask to your hair avoiding direct contact from the scalp and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes to bring lustre back to hair. Wrap a warm towel around your head and leave for the recommended amount of time. The additional warmth will ensure that your hair absorbs as much of the product as possible, making it that much more effective. Rinse thoroughly and apply a serum to towel-dried hair to add shine and gloss.
