Byloom, the popular handloom haunt in Hindusthan Park, celebrated its seventh anniversary on March 13 with a Byloom Ladies of Calcutta show. Ten women from different walks of life sashayed down the makeshift aisle at the Byloom Canteen in gorgeous drapes from their new linen collection and a second line of embroidered saris. In the audience were some of the store’s friends and loyalists.

“The first collection has pure linen with zari borders, with jamdani, sequins and shells woven into the saris. The second collection has two different styles of embroidery — one based on the old style of kantha along the lines of the nokshi-kantha borders and the other that was inspired by Kutch embroidery,” said Bappaditya Biswas, designer and one of the partners of Byloom. The new linen collection starts at Rs 5,500, while the embroidered line starts at Rs 4,200.

The store also has an online presence with www.byloom.co.in.

“We had simply opened a store with an idea but from that to becoming a destination in the city for our products, the journey has been overwhelming,” said Malavika Banerjee, another partner of Byloom. “So we like celebrating with women wearing our saris as it is a matter of pride for us that Byloom makes these achievers feel beautiful,” she added.
