Style according to you is…

Not fashion. For, fashion is all about current trends and is transient. But style, which is an individual’s personal statement or choice, is permanent.

Five items in your closet you can’t do without

My saris (Kanjeeverams, Assam silks, taants, dhakais), jeans, long skirts, my jhumkas and handbags.

What do you like to mix- and-match?

Anything unconventional. Recently I wore a red Benarasi sari with a maroon jacket for a performance.

What kind of a shopper are you?

Choosy and impatient. If I like something, I buy it immediately. I never wear tailored clothes as I just can’t wait till they are delivered to me.

You have a fetish for…

Saris, saris and more saris (preferably south Indian). I am also crazy about chunky jhumkas and necklaces with pendants shaped like Lord Ganesha.

Favourite accessories

Dokra jewellery from Shantiniketan, necklaces with Ganesha pendants and watches.

If money were no object what would you add to your closet?

I would splurge on an expensive, milky white Benarasi sari, like the one that Goddess Saraswati is depicted wearing.

The trend you are sporting at the moment

A triple bindi, which is made from holy pastes from Dakshineshwar, Tirupati and Siddhivinayak temples.

You have a nose for

All fragrances from Nina Ricci and Fruits & Passion

Essentials in your handbag

My mobile, a kohl pencil, a lipstick, a face cream and a comb
