All shapes bright & breezy

Apple? Pear? Not sure? You don’t have to into any body type. Just fit into the right summer fashion

The model, tall and slender, sports a midi dress with a high-neck. The vertical crinkles on the dressy but casual dress makes her look taller.
The soft, shirt-collared flowy dress is a must-have. The belt accentuates the model’s delicate waist and gives her willowy body a curvier look

You are always told that you are one of these body-types. Apple: curvy, with a fuller upper body; Pear: opposite of apple, curvy, narrow above, fuller below; Banana: not curvy, hips about the same size as waist; or Hourglass: curvy, narrow in the middle, perfect.

But you may not be an Apple. You may not be a Banana. Why, you may refuse to be any fruit at all. You may be just yourself, your own distinct shape, with a complex, interesting personality behind.

So we will not categorise you into a body type. Here are just a few guidelines as you look for summerwear: what can make you look taller, or more slender, or  more full-bodied, according to our experts (see pictures). But finally, it’s the outfit, and your personality.

The short over-sized dress with floral embroidery flatters the model’s hour-glass frame.
The cotton full-sleeved maxi dress gives her a poised silhouette
The long ivory dress with its whimsy colours  flatters the model’s petite frame, making her look taller
This vibrant pop print dress complements the model’s figure.  The sheer jacket provides structure
to the shoulders, giving the lower body a narrow look

Aayshya Jhunjhunwala and Vasundahara Mantri of Shaadilogy.com, where some of the outfits are available, also have a few general summer fashion tips:

• Keep it comfortable. Wear flowy and loose outfit, but not ill-fitted ones.

• Wear lighter colours. Pastels are in trend.

• Go for cottons and natural fabrics.

• Be comfortable in what you wear. If you feel uncomfortable you will look uncomfortable.

• Maxis, dresses, flowing kurtas, capes, palazzos, pyjamas and dhoti pants are easy and breezy!

• Sleeveless is ok, but sometimes it’s good to wear light and covered clothes to avoid sunburn!

Make-up professional Vatsala Bhagat also has a few tips.

• Use an oil-free moisturiser followed by a primer.

• Use a light foundation/CC cream to begin with.

• Use brighter lip colours.

• Choose a hairstyle to compliment your face type

• Try avoiding hairstyles with hair coming on the face as it might stick to your skin

• Avoid using too much product in your hair as it might get frizzy.
