Saint Augustine, a famous philosopher, once said “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page”. From the outside, travelling looks like visiting a new place, doing fun activities, and capturing pictures, but it’s so much more than that. Living in a world with the internet has given us the ability to “travel” online, but nothing compares to visiting somewhere for yourself; travelling takes us on an adventurous journey and exposes us to things we haven’t explored yet. Not to mention, travelling allows us to not only visit a new region but also become accustomed to the people that inhabit it .
Today we talked to an amazing woman: Tanu Garg Mehta. Tanu shared that she began her career journey as a flight attendant; through her journey as a flight attendant, she was able to travel to many new places. She expresses how these travels helped her transform her personality. Travelling made her more confident and changed her perspective toward other people; it helped her become more open to changes and gave her the capability to overcome hardships. Likewise, Tanu says that travelling enables us to explore a world within ourselves; it creates a sense of calmness and individuality that prepares you for other experiences, such as moving to the USA.
Here is an excerpt from our chat with Flight Attendant turned Pageant queen Tanu Garg Mehta.
1. What excites you about travel and exploration?
Some of the positives of travelling are bringing out new ideas, making new friends, and self-confidence. The holistic self-development by communicating with people of other cultures helps us comprehend the basics of humanity and freedom. Travelling brings a sense of change and development to the lifestyle and equips a person with practical knowledge of adapting lifestyle to live life to its fullest.
2. How do you think travelling impacts our behaviour?
Modern scientific studies and many psycho-social experiments suggest that exposing oneself to a new environment and leaving the comfort zone keeps anxiety, stress, and depression away. It helps to remove stress and refresh oneself. Having a change of scenery gives a change of pace and soundness of judgement. In general, it helps broaden the horizon of a person's life.
3. When did you get hooked on travelling?
People around the world travel for different reasons. Some travel as a part of their passion to explore the unexplored, while others because of their profession. I, however, have been blessed with the opportunity to travel the world, explore various cultures, and taste global cuisines from an early stage in life since I joined the airline industry as a Flight Attendant.
4. Please suggest 3 must visit places.
London, Melbourne and Milan
5. What's your 2022 message to our readers?
People tend to forget what they are, and who they are, by just going through life. Let the bug of travel bite you so that you could experience the calmness and the thrills of life at the same time, and evolve into a better person altogether.
