Calcutta, June 25: Kitchen appliances maker Kutchina has forayed into the small appliances segment and is looking to set up a manufacturing base in Bengal.
"In October, our Chinese manufacturing partner for chimneys will visit to evaluate the prospects of setting up a manufacturing unit. We hope to form a joint venture to set up a chimney-making facility in the state," said Namit Bajoria, director of Kutchina, here.
At present, the home-grown company imports all its products from China.
"Kutchina will provide the land and other infrastructure but the technology and machinery would be Chinese. The manufacturing unit will be a separate entity. Kutchina will source products from it. The products will also be exported to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka," he said.
According to Bajoria, Kutchina, popular for its kitchen chimney, entered the small appliances market to offer all kitchen solutions under a single roof.
Nationally, the market size for small appliances is Rs 10,000 crore, of which Kutchina is targeting the premium segment.
The company's annual turnover in 2015-16 was about Rs 200 crore.
