New Delhi, Feb. 6: Nissan's Datsun-branded small car will be launched in India in April.
Codenamed i2 and shown as the redi-GO concept at various auto shows, this small car from Nissan India Motors will be placed below the Datsun GO and will take on the Alto and the Eon.
"We will have the small car in India in April this year," said Vincent Cobee, global head of Datsun, on the sidelines of the Delhi Auto Expo 2016, where the company showcased the GO Cross concept.
With a promise to bring a new product in India every year, Datsun will launch the redi-GO in April, with the Cross coming in a year later.
"The redi-GO is based on a small car project - i2 - being jointly developed with Renault on the Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-A platform.
Nissan Motors India plans to have a 5 per cent market share by 2020. Datsun will have 50 per cent of the 5 per cent share," said Cobee.
On the Cross, Cobee said, "We will gauge the customer reaction to the Cross concept. The Cross is about adventure. The car will enhance the GO family."
Nissan, which entered India 15 years ago, is trying to make a clear demarcation between its brands to shore up its sales. The company is now repositioning its two brands - Datsun and Nissan.
