Calcutta: Bank employees' unions have rejected the 2 per cent salary hike offer made by Indian Banks' Association (IBA).
Wage revision for bank employees is due from November 1, 2017. The initial offer of the IBA was a meagre 2 per cent, which was totally rejected by the constituents of the United Forum of Bank Unions, AIBOC general-secretary D.T. Franco said.
UFBU comprises of nine employees and officers union.
"In the meeting held on Saturday, IBA's unjust offer of 2 per cent was rejected by the United Forum of Bank Unions," National Organisation of Bank Worker's vice-president Ashwani Rana said.
"A 2 per cent offer is a mockery and cannot be accepted," said Rajen Nager, president of AIBEA. The bankers had cited low profitability on account of provisions to cover NPAs as a justification for a meagre revision of wages.
In the last wage revision, IBA had provided a 15 per cent hike. Unions have decided to write to the government, immediately followed by a nationwide demonstration on May 9, AIBOC said.
