Patna, March 14: Parents of students seeking admission to St Xavier’s High School today lodged complaints with Bihar State Child Rights Protection Commission (BSCRPC) over the institution’s “flawed” admission procedure.
Several guardians complained that the school conducted random selection in the absence of parents going back on the announcement it made earlier. Parents were asked to witness the procedure at 3pm on Sunday but the list was put up earlier the same day.
BSCRPC chairperson Nisha Jha said: “We have received around five written complaints against the St Xavier’s management and more than 25 oral complaints. We will hold a board meeting tomorrow to decide on the matter. We have also received complaints against a few other schools, which have not cancelled the written tests or interviews conducted by them for admission to Nursery or Class I.”
Jha added: “The Right to Education (RTE) Act was promulgated in 2009 and had to be implemented from April 1, 2010. Since the session had already started, the act could not be implemented last year. Many other states have already implemented the act and from this year, it has to be implemented.” Jha expressed surprise on why schools were not ready to implement the act.
Jha said: “The act ensures that in the future, there is no discrimination in the society. To prevent such a situation, the government is ensuring that the RTE Act is implemented and that can be done only when equality is ensured.”
A police officer said: “We visited the school today and made inquiries acting on the FIR lodged by the parents yesterday. The parents had lodged an FIR against the school principal and four other school management members under sections 420, 406 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code.”
