Patna, March 29: The Assembly today passed the Bihar Finance Bill, 2012 by voice vote.

The bill was moved by deputy chief minister and in-charge of the finance minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who said the aim of the bill was to widen the tax net in the state.

The bill seeks a deposit of Rs 10,000 for registration of dealers with no liability.

The bill has also sought to increase taxes on vehicles — 6 per cent on cars costing less than Rs 4 lakh and 7 per cent in case it costs more than Rs 4 lakh.

The statute has also asked vehicle dealers to pay more trade tax.

Most of these announcements were already made by Modi, when he presented his budget during the current session of the House.

The leader of the Opposition, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, opposed to the idea of raising taxes on car that costs less than Rs 4 lakh.
