Patna: The Inland Waterways Authority of India on Saturday made a presentation before chief minister Nitish Kumar on various facets of National Waterway 1 or Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system.
Nitish advocated formulation of a national siltation management policy to ensure uninterrupted flow of water in the Ganga.

Patna: President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Dr BC Roy national award for eminent medical teacher for the year 2015 on Dr Arun Kumar Thakur, former head of paediatrics at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, on March 28. The Medical Council of India gives this award to doctors for their contribution to medical sciences.
Bail snub to Pappu
Patna (PTI): A district court on Saturday denied bail to Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav, arrested five days ago for allegedly disturbing the law and order in the city two months ago. First class Judicial Magistrate Sangita Kumari dismissed the bail plea of Pappu, who was arrested in a case registered at Gandhi Maidan police station on January 24, 2017, for creating nuisance at Kargil Chowk. The MP was arrested on the night of March 27 from his Mandiri residence by the district police and the court had sent him to judicial custody till April 13.

Patna: Patna College teacher Randhir Kumar Singh has been elected the president of Patna University Teachers' Association on Saturday.
Rape attempt
Patna: The principal of a government middle school in Nawada district, Meraj Alam, was arrested on Saturday on the charge of attempting to rape a girl student on the school premises. Kashichak police station house officer Suryakant Kumar said the principal has been booked under sections of protection of children from sexual offences Act.
School principal killed
Patna: Two motorbike-borne criminals shot dead Shambhu Mandal, the principal of a government secondary school, on the school premises at Kamlakund village in Bhagalpur district on Saturday. The motive was not known, the police said.
Heroin haul
Patna: Sashastra Seema Bal personnel on Saturday arrested a youth, Mantoo Mahto, and seized heroin worth Rs 90 lakh from Chanpatia police station area in East Champaran district on Saturday. Mahto, a resident of Jamunia Tola in East Champaran district, was involved in narcotics deal from Nepal.
