The Sun God on Friday chose to remain indoors resulting in a chill but weathermen claimed a sunny weekend is in store.
As predicted earlier, the tail of a western disturbance caused overcast conditions in the region. However, the clouds had cleared from most parts of Bihar by the evening and sunny days are expected during the weekend. Residents can expect warm weather condition over the next couple of days.
Low-level clouds, which prevailed throughout the day, prevented the solar rays to reach the earth's surface, leading to day-cold conditions at many places on Friday. The maximum temperature in Patna was recorded at 16°Celsius, eight notches lower than the normal for the day.
The northern parts of the state were worst affected by the cloud cover. Bhagalpur also faced day-cold conditions with the maximum temperature standing at 15.6°Celsius, nine notches lower than the normal. When the maximum temperature is around eight to 10 degrees below normal it is said to be day-cold condition.
'The western disturbance that caused extreme shiver at many places in north Bihar over the past couple of days had formed a tail originating from the Arabian Sea. This tail created a layer of shallow clouds over Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and several parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The clouds were lying at the height of 4km from the earth's surface. The shallow cover, however, cleared from the region by Friday evening, thus, clear skies would be observed from Saturday,' said R.K. Giri, a senior meteorologist at Patna Met.
Though the skies would be clear, foggy conditions would prevail in the morning. Formation of dense fog is an usual phenomenon following overcast conditions during winters.
With regard to the expected temperature conditions in Patna, Giri said the maximum temperature is expected to be around 22-23 degrees Celsius and the minimum to be around 10-11 degrees Celsius over the next three-four days. Wind conditions are also not expected to be harsher. Weathermen said westerly winds were blowing at a speed of 7-8kmph on Friday and it was expected to reduce over the weekend.
While the weather conditions are expected to be warmer over the next few days, overcast conditions are expected to make a comeback around January 24. 'We are expecting a fresh western disturbance around January 24, wherein light rainfall is expected in Bihar as well,' said Giri.
