Most city schools have advanced their summer vacation to facilitate the counting of votes of the general election on May 16.
Mary Alphonsa, the principal of Don Bosco Academy, said: “The school’s last working day is May 15. We have advanced our vacation owing to the heat wave and election counting. Earlier, May 16 was the last working day.”
Loyola High School, too, has advanced the vacation owing to the same reason. School principal Brother Satish said: “Earlier, May 17 was the last working day. Since the counting is on May 16, we cannot keep it open on that day. Therefore, the last working day would now be May 15.”
Similar is the case with St Dominic Savio’s High School. School director G.J. Galstaun said: “Earlier, the last working day was May 16 but due to the counting, we have advanced the summer vacation by a day. Now, the school would tentatively close from May 16.”
Deepak Kumar, whose child studies in Notre Dame Academy, said: “The school may declare a holiday on May 16 since counting would take place on that day. It would have been better if the last working day was May 15. It is so hot and my child faces problems especially while coming back from school.”
DAV Khagaul would be open till May 17 but May 16 would be a holiday. Christ Church Diocesan School would be open till May 19. A source said: “It is very difficult to finish the syllabus, therefore we would keep the school open till May 19 till the district magistrate issues specific instructions. However, May 16 would be a holiday owing to counting of votes.”
On the other hand, St Joseph’s Convent High School and DPS Patna have already closed down for summer vacation.
DAV BSEB principal Ramanuj Prasad said: “Students from classes I to V are already not coming since we had declared holidays for them considering the heat wave. Rest of the students would have May 17 as the last working day.”
