Muzaffarpur, Jan. 31: An education department team would visit colleges affiliated to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University in the first week of February to conduct on-the-spot inspection of how vocational courses are being run in these institutes.

The team will also suggest measures for the smooth functioning of the courses.

According to sources, the team was formed after a plethora of complaints regarding the functioning of the vocational courses reached vice-chancellor Bimal Kumar. Some of the complaints — from the college principals and the co-ordinators of the vocational courses — were sent to the secretary of the higher education department as well.

Principals and course co-ordinators have complained against each other regarding interference in the functioning of the vocational courses, said a source.

The team will inspect the quality of education imparted as part of these courses. The team members will interact with students and gather feedback from them. They will also inspect the condition of laboratories and other facilities.

Kumar told The Telegraph: “I have asked the principals and course co-ordinators concerned to co-operate with the team.”

Since 2002, a number of courses were started in the constituent and affiliated colleges of the university.

The vice-chancellor said: “These courses are operated under the self-financing schemes. Some of them are finding it difficult to meet the expenses and pay the resource personnel and employees. I have requested the state government to provide grants to run the vocational courses.”
