Darbhanga, Feb. 2: The 89th birth anniversary of Lalit Narayan Mishra was celebrated at Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) here today.
Former chief minister of the state, Jagannath Mishra, was the chief guest at the occasion. He spoke about the development work conducted by Lalit babu, as Lalit Narayan Mishra was popularly known as. Jagannath Mishra, the youngest brother of Lalit Narayan, spoke about the work that the latter did for the people of Mithilanchal and Seemanchal. He said: “Lalit babu was a freedom fighter, statesman and a successful administrator who dedicated his life for the state and the country. I would never forget the last words he uttered at a public meeting at Samastipur station before the bomb explosion in which he was killed. He had said: ‘Main rahoon ya na rahoon, Bihar aage barhta rahega (whether I live or not, Bihar will move ahead).”
The former chief minister said the NDA government in the state led by Nitish Kumar is fulfilling the dreams that his brother once saw. The 74-year-old also appreciated the work of the vice-chancellor of LNMU, S.P. Singh, for looking after the retired teachers by clearing their dues. He also appreciated the initiative of covering the university’s land. He requested the university authorities to remove the illegal encroachments on the university land.
Elder son of late Lalit Narayan and MLA from Jale, Vijoy Kumar Mishra recalled the important contributions of Lalit Narayan as he spoke on the occasion.
