Ara: Dozens of boarders of a girls' hostel on the campus of Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), led by VKSU students' union president Amit Kumar and other student leaders, sat on a fast unto death in front of the office of the pro-vice chancellor Nand Kishor Sah on Wednesday.

They said food was not being provided to them for the past two days and they had 12 other demands that include publishing of pending results of the BA part-II after rectification. The agitating students also demanded suspension of deputy superintendent, caretaker and the in-charge of the girls hostel.

The students raised slogans against university officials for their indifferent attitude towards their problems and blamed them for not keeping their word.

The university administration called the police force and the entire varsity turned into a police camp.

VKSU students union president Amit Kumar said the students had a talk with the pro-VC regarding their demands but the university did not give any assurance.

Amit said the boarders of the hostel were compelled to bring meals from outside as the mess of the hostel was shut for the past two days but the university administration did not pay heed to their problems despite several requests.

He said the university also failed to publish the pending results of BA part-II (session 2015-2018) after rectification, causing a lot of problems to students though the university had assured to publish the result by June 30, 2018.

The hostel administration said the girls were given two options - either to manage the mess themselves or the mess would be handed over to a contractor.

Normally, the university administration is responsible for the maintenance of the hostel, basic amenities such as electricity, drinking water, security but not for their food.

Amit said the statement of the hostel administration is shameful and that they would continue their agitation till their demands were met.
