Gaya: Magadh University non-teaching employees called off their 28-day-long strike on Friday on the condition that no punitive action would be taken against the employees for the strike.
The condition is mentioned in the agreement signed by the varsity non-teaching employees union general secretary Amarnath Pathak, pro vice-chancellor K.N. Paswan and others on Thursday evening.
The strike was called off following the meeting held on Thursday between varsity officials and representatives of the employees. Vice-chancellor (VC) Qamar Ahsan had authorised the pro-VC to hold dialogue with the employees to end the strike.
Following a nearly five-hour long meeting, the employees agreed to call off the strike.
Employees resumed work on Friday.
VC Ahsan said best possible efforts would be made to fulfil the agreement made by the pro-VC on behalf of the university administration with employees' union representatives.
As per the agreement, meeting of the promotion and compassionate appointment committee will be held in December this year. Promotion and appointment on compassionate grounds were among the prominent demands of the employees. Other demands that have been considered in the agreement include seeking direction from the state government regarding daily wage and contractual employees. Earlier, according to a notice issued by the university administration, service of daily wage and contractual employees was to be terminated if they did not return to work by December 1. As per the agreement, such employees will submit all related papers of their appointment by December 23 to the office of the registrar.
For repair of employees' quarters, request has been made to the building construction corporation and from the public health and engineering department to ensure water supply on the varsity campus. In case estimate of the work exceeds Rs 1.5 lakh, tender will be floated to select an agency.
