Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) will offer postgraduate courses in five more disciplines from academic session 2016-17.
Adding to its present clutch of 16 postgraduate courses, CUSB will also run studies in physics, chemistry, commerce and business studies, business management and history and archaeology from its Panchanpur (near Gaya town) campus.
The varsity academic council has already given its go-ahead for starting the five courses from the coming academic session.
On Monday, the university executive council, one of the top statutory bodies, gave its consent to the launch of five additional courses.
Vice-chancellor Harish Chandra Singh Rathore headed the executive council meeting, which was attended by principal education secretary Dharmendra Singh Gangwar and other officials.
According to sources, the student intake in each of these courses will be 20 as in other postgraduate courses.
Admission will be conducted on the basis of Central University of South Bihar Entrance Test.
Vice-Chancellor Rathore said: "The university has decided to launch these postgraduate courses as part of its expansion plan and on students' demand."
Students welcomed the move.
Anil Kumar, an undergraduate student of Patna Science College, said: "I am a final-year physics student. The decision to launch postgraduate physics course will open the gates for students like me to secure admission in a reputable central university in Bihar itself."
The university executive council met on Monday and took a few other decisions too - approving the appointment of the registrar along with other key administrative positions and faculty positions.
It approved the appointment of finance officer and controller of examinations. The university will disclose the names of these administrative officials in a couple of days.
The registrar's post was lying vacant for more than 10 months after Mohammed Nehal resigned on May 29 last year.
In the absence of regular registrar, dean (education) Rekha Agarwal was working as acting registrar.
