Patna boy Sharad Vivek Sagar's initiative to hone the skills of students from economically weaker sections now finds mention in the Michigan State University's entrepreneurship course.
The 23-year-old has been striving hard so that students have access to the best possible education of their choice and can avail different scholarships through their talent.
Michigan State University is one of America's top 100 universities and is ranked among the top 500 universities in the world. Sharad has featured in the syllabus of entrepreneurship as the chief executive officer of Dexterity Global. The course is titled Social and Cultural Entrepreneurship and is taught by Professor Dànielle Nicole DeVoss there. In this course, students learn creative and innovative ways to combat global challenges through entrepreneurship.
Apart from Sharad, two other entrepreneurs who feature in the syllabus are Jaqueline Novogratz and Bill Drayton. Both are from the US and have found place for their innovative entrepreneurship ventures. Sharad is mentioned in the university syllabus as an Indian entrepreneur who is a multiple UN awardee, founder and CEO of Dexterity Global and is listed among the Top 100 Next Century Innovators of the World by the Rockefeller Foundation.
Reacting to the feat, Sharad said: "I am excited beyond measure that people, organisations and institutions across the world are so widely accepting and spreading the good things we have to say, the good work we want to get done and the impact we are achieving and want to achieve. Social impact is a different ballgame. No one can lead it alone and it is deeply encouraging to see validation, support, and action."
Sharad's Dexterity Global prepares students for admission into the world's topmost universities and works to hone leadership qualities among them through various programmes. Getting laurels is not new for this Patna boy, doing his graduation from Tufts University, USA.
In July, Joyce Yen Feng, a Taiwan minister, had quoted Sharad while delivering a keynote address at the Social Enterprise World Forum 2015 in Milan, Italy. Last month, Sharad had received a VIP invitation to the Global Economic Leaders Summit in China. Sharad was invited alongside several heads of state and Fortune 500 CEOs. He is also one of the youngest entrepreneurs to have received a verified page (Sharad Sagar Official) from Facebook.
Sagar's internationally acclaimed social enterprise -Dexterity Global - had in June come up with a new platform, Dexterity to College (D2C), to help students from Class IX-XII in the state to prepare for admissions into such renowned universities. Former admission officials from Harvard University, Tufts University and a few other global universities of repute are part of the Dexterity Global's team, apart from alumni of these universities.
Before that, in May, Dexterity School of Leadership and Entrepreneurship (popularly known as Dex School) had got Mamta Patel Nagraja, a space flight engineer with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa), US, to address its new batch.
Mamta did not come down to Patna. It was a pre-recorded video, in which she answered queries of students, that was played for the students. The questions had been taken in advance so that the Nasa scientist could answer them in detail. Apart from Mamta, luminaries from other fields, like social worker Sudha Verghese, entrepreneur Irfan Alam and academic Syed Sultan Ahmed, have also mentored Dexterity students.
To be part of the Dex Sch-ool, according to Sharad, one has to fill up online application forms, describing themselves and answer queries related to entrepreneurship. The shortlisted candidates have to face telephonic interview after which a chosen few are selected as a part of the Dex School. This is the third year of the Dex School.
