Students of Jai Prakash University will soon be trained by teachers directly appointed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Sources said the teachers would be appointed as part of the University Grants Commission Recharge Programme. The purpose of the appointments is to improve the standard of higher education.

Ashok Kumar Jha, the co-ordinator of the College Development Committee of the university, said after a nationwide survey in areas related to higher education, it was found that there was a dearth of science teachers. As a result, students were not getting standard education, he added.

Jha added that students were not pursuing science subjects after clearing Plus Two examinations because of the lack of quality education.

The survey also revealed that the number of science students in universities in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bengal was decling. Keeping the trend in mind, the UGC has decided to appoint five teachers each for subjects such as botany, physics, maths and chemistry in all universities in these states.

Jha said the UGC would appoint science teachers and it would also make their payments. These teachers would take classes of postgraduate students of the JP University, he added.

He said the teachers would start taking classes from the new session and the university administration has made the necessary arrangements for this.

The nodal officer of UGC-cum-inspector of colleges, Nand Kumar Singh, said: “The university has sent a proposal to this effect and from the coming session, the teachers would start taking the classes.”
