Patna, Sept. 30: Two senior Bihar cadre Indian Police Service officers, including director-general (DG) of police (homeguards) U.S. Dutt retired from service today.

Dutt received the last salute from the police force at a farewell parade organised on the Bihar Military Police (BMP) ground in Patna this evening.

Dutt said he was proud of being a part of Bihar police, which was different from other state police forces. “I have visited several states and also worked with central forces, but the Bihar police is different from others,” he said.

He thanked the police officials for extending their co-operation in discharge of duty. “I can’t forget the co-operation that I received during my service in the force,” he added.

Director-general of police (DGP) Abhayanand said the police officials should take lessons from Dutt, whom he never found tense even in adverse situations.

The DGP also highlighted Dutt’s contribution to the state police force in which he served in different capacities. “Dutt’s contribution to the state force will be remembered for long,” he added.

Earlier, the additional director-general, BMP, A.C. Verma, welcomed the guests. Newly promoted directors-general of police Ashok Kumar Gupta and V. Narayanan were also present on the occasion.

Manoje Nath, who was earlier posted as DG (training), assumed charge from Dutt today. On Thursday, additional director-general (headquarters) Rajvardhan Sharma, too, was accorded farewell.

Sharma said he was very proud of being part of the force, which is known for its valour.

“Today, I am leaving the force with a heavy heart but I am equally proud of you,” Sharma said. He expressed his thanks to former DGP Neel Mani for making an arrangement by which even ADGs and other DGs would be entitled to the farewell parade which was otherwise given only to DGPs.
