Who is India’s longest serving president of any Indian political party?
Sonia Gandhi — answered the Loyola High School team. Oops! You are wrong. It’s Lalu Prasad, the RJD president.
Many such questions teased the brains of school students who took part in the quiz competition under Udaan and Shikhar, organised by The Telegraph.
The final four teams competing for the first position made the quiz quite interesting. “It was not just a correct answer for us. It meant a lot. It is really difficult to concentrate on the question and be quick enough while pressing the buzzer and take a risk for negative marking. I was under immense pressure,” said Vivek of St Michael’s High School student of “Shikhar category”, meant for students of Classes IX to XII.
The quiz was divided into four rounds — direct questions, multiple choice rounds, visual round and buzzer round. Two questions in each category, excluding the buzzer round, were asked to each team. The buzzer round consisted of 10 questions with negative marking. Each team had three participants.
An interesting round added to the Shikhar Quiz was the audio rounds. New and old Bollywood songs were played and teams were asked to recognise the song.
The winner of Shikhar Quiz was St Michael’s High School followed by DAV Public School, BSEB, and Litera Valley School.
The level of competition was made quite good by the participating teams with their quick and correct answers. From history to mathematics, social science to economics to current affairs — the questions were asked from every possible field. Patna High Court lawyer Anshuman Singh coordinated the quiz.
“I really enjoyed the event. The questions were smartly framed. I specially loved the audio round,” said Shaisha Singh, a teacher of Litera Valley School.
Participants of a few teams said they had learnt a lot from the competition. Prateek, a Class VIII student of Open Minds School, was really excited after the final results were announced. “In semi-final, we were the lowest scorer and had to go through a tie round to get into finale. But we have learnt from the mistake we made in the semi-final. A good synchronisation is needed when one is playing in a team. It was all team effort this time,” said Prateek.
Udaan Quiz — for students of Classes VI-VIII — winner was Open Minds followed by DAV BSEB and DAV Khagaul.
