Students taking the entrance test of Patna Women’s College on Tuesday found the going tough. And only the tough got going because some questions were tricky.

At the end of the day, the aspirants felt those with better IQ (intelligence quotient) would figure in the merit list. Others would be elbowed out.

Richa Harshvardhan, a student who appeared in the entrance test for admission to the humanities stream, said: “I did well in the test. But by looking at the crowd, it appears that students securing high marks will be in the merit list.”

She said the Patna University administration had a fair idea that a large number of students would appear in the test and so tough questions were asked in the exam.

Questions like which city would host the 2016 Olympics Games checked the current affairs awareness of the applicants, Richa said.

Shreya Katyani, a Class XII passout of DAV, BSEB, said there were tricky questions from the English and Hindi literature also.

Appearing in the test for admission to the humanities stream, she said: “One of the questions was what is a protagonist.”

Protagonist is the main character of a story and everything veers around him or her.

Patna Women’s College is the second Patna University-affiliated institution to conduct the entrance test.

On Monday, Magadh Mahila College conducted the test. Entrance exam has been made mandatory for admission to any college under Patna University.

Around 2,500 aspirants took the admission test at Patna Women’s College on Tuesday.

As many as 1,379 students vied for the 600 seats in the humanities stream.

For the 250 seats in the science stream, 1,183 students took the test.

The entrance examination was held in two shifts.

The science stream aspirants appeared in the exam from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

The test for the humanities stream was from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

While the teachers of Patna Women’s College were busy conducting the entrance test, BN College counterparts on Tuesday reviewed preparations for the test for admission to the undergraduate courses in the science and humanities.

The test will be conducted on Thursday.

P.K. Poddar, the principal of BN College, said: “For the 220 seats in mathematics, the college has received 1,418 applications. Thus, there will be keen contest among the aspirants seeking admission to mathematics honours.”

It will be comparatively easier to get an admission to BSc, biology, because around 250 students have applied for the 130 seats up for grabs.

In the humanities stream, around 1,127 students have applied for the 600 seats.

Poddar said: “There will be 100 questions carrying one mark each. Sixty of them will be on the subject in which a student is seeking admission to. There will be 20 questions on general knowledge and another 20 on mental aptitude.”
