Patna, Feb. 17: Three more policemen arrested on corruption charges from Vaishali district have been dismissed from service. With this, the number of dismissed policemen in the state for their involvement in corrupt practices has gone up to 11.
Sources said Gupteshwar Pandey, the inspector-general of police (IG) of Tirhut zone, yesterday issued the order of dismissal from service of two sub-inspectors (SIs) and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI). Two of them were posted as the station house officers.
Pandey terminated the services of SI Shasbhi Bhushan Prasad and ASI Maheshwar Prasad Verma posted at the Ganga Bridge police station in Vaishali district after they were caught red-handed while taking Rs 5000 as bribe from a man on the pretext of releasing his vehicle on September 16, 2006. Departmental proceedings were initiated against the two cops.
Deputy inspector-general (DIG), Tirhut range, Bachhu Singh Meena found the allegations to be true against Prasad and Verma and recommended their dismissal.
Similarly, charges against Vinodan and Giri, then station house officer of Jurawanpur police station in Vaishali district, was caught by sleuths of the vigilance investigation bureau while taking bribe of Rs 10,000. Subsequently a case was lodged against Giri, who was booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
DIG Meena confirmed the termination of the service of the three policemen arrested earlier on corruption charge.
In the last week of January, Ramashanker Singh, an SI, and Umesh Prasad, an ASI, posted at Bhojpur district, were dismissed from service by DIG (Sahabad range) Sushil Khopde. The DIG has also recommended termination of service of inspector Singheshwar Prasad, who was arrested on graft charge when posted in Bhojpur.
