Patna police have coined new terms — “blind” or “dead” — to classify cases that they have failed to crack.

The police also often use the “logical conclusion” excuse for cases that have not been solved for a long time.

Explaining the significance of the terms, an officer told The Telegraph: “A blind case refers to one in which the police have not been able to make any breakthrough. A dead case is one in which there has been no breakthrough for a long time. But no case is a dead case, as arrests have been made in some after a long time.”

He added: “Wait for a ‘logical conclusion’ means there has been no breakthrough.”

In the light of these terms, The Telegraph on Wednesday asked the police about the status of some criminal cases.

The case of liquor dealer Prem Singh, who was murdered on May 9, is still a mystery for the police. Sources said the police have categorised it as a “blind case”.

Singh was allegedly the main conspirator in the murder of another liquor trader Saket Gupta, who was shot dead on May 7 at Kumhrar Park. Singh’s body was recovered near Kumhrar railway crossing on the night of May 9.

Police claim to have arrested the murders of Gupta. But Prem’s murder is still shrouded in mystery.

“There has been no breakthrough till now. It is still a blind case for the police,” Patna senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj told The Telegraph

The murder of three children and two women at a city hotel on October 22 has been classified as a “dead” case by the cops.

Asked about it on Wednesday, another officer on condition of anonymity, said: “It is a ‘dead’ case. It cannot be solved anymore.”

Among the other dead cases is the murder of five people at a hotel near Patna Junction on October 22 last year.

The alleged murdered, a resident of Dehri in Rohtas district, Sharvan, had killed his three daughters, wife and sister-in-law by poisoning them. He has not been arrested.

“This case is a dead one for sure. The cops searched thoroughly for the main accused but he was never found. He laid a perfect plan to kill all his victims and then vanished into thin air. There is a doubt that he might have fled to Nepal or even have committed suicide out of guilt. Many theories came to the fore but the man was never traced,” a police officer pointed out.

The recent murder of the principal of a primary school, about which the police claim they have some leads, is still a far cry from the “logical conclusion”.

On Tuesday, The Telegraph called up Patna city superintendent of police Jayant Kant inquiring about the developments in the murder case of the school principal and the bank officer.

“At present, there are no developments. It is still a blind case for the cops. The case is being investigated though,” the officer said.

Another officer, when asked the same question, chose familiar words to answer the query.

“The police want the case to reach a logical conclusion. It might take sometime but investigations are continuing at the moment,” he said.
