Patna: RJD leader and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad on Wednesday said if voted to power, changes would be made in the prohibition law and would be implemented in a practical way in which people would not be harassed.

"It was for the first time total prohibition was implemented in the state and we have seen its results. When we form the government we will take the opinion of the people of Bihar, intellectuals and others as well. We will make changes and prohibition would be implemented practically in which people are not harassed," Tejashwi told The Telegraph at his 5 Desh Ratna Marg bungalow.

Senior leaders and MLAs of the party were accompanying Tejashwi during the release of Aarop Patra (chargesheet) by the RJD against the state government.

Tejashwi's statement came on the eve of the second anniversary of total prohibition which was implemented by Nitish on April 5, 2016.

Tejashwi made the statement in a casual way because other leaders of the party had earlier announced that if voted to power prohibition would be lifted. Even RJD alliance partners and former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi had declared that prohibition should be withdrawn.

Repeating the words of Nitish that he implemented the prohibition on the request to women but failed to foresee what would happen with the women if the sole earning member of that family goes to jail. "Can Nitish ji tell me if the sole earner of a family goes to jail who will look after his family, wife, and children," Tejashwi said.

"A BJP leader (read Manoj Baitha) under the influence of liquor killed children and there's home delivery of liquor in Bihar. The mafia has taken over the market. Forget total prohibition, Bihar has now adopted a drugs culture. Children are being used for smuggling liquor. No action is being taken against the liquor mafia," Tejashwi said.
